Do i need to register as a business to sell goods on my own website?

and if so, does it cost anything?if so, how much and how do i go about it? thanks.

i'm in the uk.

no.

yes you will need to register as self-employed with HMRC within 3 months of starting trading as a business.
it doesn't cost anything to do, but means they can then send you a tax return each year to complete on what income/expenses/profit you've had so they can calculate your tax. it's a pretty staright forward but if you need help speak to business link for free, or find a bookkeeper or accountant to assist you.
to register with HMRC follow this link http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/selfemployed/iwtr...
all the best with your website & new business venture. Rebecca x

It all depends on where you are, If your here in the uk you dont need to register you would be classed as self-employed all you would have to do it tell Customs and Revenu that your self employed.

It would be wise to check your local regulations.

I believe you should apply for a vendors license. It doesn't cost very much money.

They will require that you report your sales and pay sales taxes when applicable.

Yes you need to register as a business and possibly collect sales tax.

How you go about doing it depends on your state.
