Why don't modern day geniuses make a big impact?

I'm sure there are many modern day geniuses but why don't their contributions make impacts as big as those older yet ever famous geniuses' like Archimedes, Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei, Pythagoras, Thomas Edison and so on? I'm sure our modern day geniuses have made contributions, discovered and invented new things and technology but why aren't they as well known? Without consulting Wikipedia or Google or anything, I can hardly name a modern genius...unless Bill Gates is considered as one. I'm sure there are modern geniuses and their contributions, like the finding out of DNA, medical break throughs, space explorations and many more but who are the geniuses behind all these works and why aren't they made as big and famous? Have we stopped adding geniuses to the list? Would like to hear what others' opinion on this is.

To Mee Maw: I understand your point, how companies and large organisations take the glory instead and that people in the past mostly worked for and by themselves so their glory was theirs. However, I feel that people in this modern era have more rights and more possibilites than people in the past. But why can't we measure up to these past geniuses in terms of significance and distinction? I guess one could also say that it's because these past geniuses discovered, invented and thought up the foundations and fundamentals.

I think they do, but society doesn't honor intelligence anymore. Today it's Hollywood that makes the impact. The rich, beautiful, and famous are honored everyday. It is all over the television. Hilary Duff released a new perfume. Paris Hilton went to jail. Nicole Ritchie dropped another 10 lbs. It's sick. What we value today has sunk to a new low.

I think we need to start making education a priority instead of money, fame, and looks. How many posts here do you see that say "I wanna be a model, look at my picture. What do you think?" instead of "I want to get into a good colege, how do I go about that?" Society needs a make over today, and it starts with the parents!

They do make a big impact. We just do not see that yet. I am sure many of them will be in the history books.

Also, today many of the geniuses work for large corporations where someone else gets the glory for their work so we may not know the person that comes up with medical breakthroughs. It is the company that gets the honor in most cases.

In times past these men and women worked from their own workshops and labs. They did not have a chain of command that made them invisible.

Because we live in a world of KNOW-IT-ALLS!

Because genius need meat to grow large brains and think instead vegans and vegetarians freaks who worship there garbage hippy feds.
