How does a PhD Scientist fit in at a Venture Capital firm?

I am currently a graduate student and am applying for internships at consulting firms for the next summer (graduating in 2009). However, one of the career counselors suggest I also consider VC firms that specialize in biotech/technology ventures. What kind of work would a PhD scientist do at a VC firm? How would I fit in? Thanks!

I would think you would be an asset in evaluating technology issues.
