any help would be much appreciated

Everyone gets so wound up about personal statements.

There are certain things which need to be covered in your personal statement. IF you follow the advice on the links below you will meet all the criteria.

Just remember that the person reading your personal statement is also reading hundreds of others. Your statement is your first impression and you get short listed or rejected at this point. The evidence stacks up - a good punchy, short well written personal statement will get attention. A boring and long ho hum personal statement will be binned.

Write one personal statement for all the universities and personalise it to each by saying I want to study at...........university for the following reasons.

Why do you want to study ................
1. Your chosen degree?
2. At this university?
3. Intended career path (why you want to qualify)?
4. Are you a suitable candidate?
5. Why should the university give you a place above anyone else.?

Oh man!! These are annoying as hell to write aren't they? Especially at multiple institutions. As far as what you can offer the university you can say that you plan to jumpstart your career while you are still a student (state whether or not you plan to pursue graduate school there and if you don't say that you are considering it there). Say that you plan to do undergraduate projects in an attempt to gain publication early and that you can offer the university prestige as their student in doing so. You can also describe your functionality between students of your other language and your instructors; that you can act as a link between professors and native speakers that may have difficulty understanding. If you are anything but white, you can mention your addition to the diversity of the institution and it's organizations/clubs/etc.

As far as what you expect from a university education. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What are you goals and dreams? How does your degree offer you a means to an end to reach those and how important to you are they?

Remember, there aren't right and wrong answers for these things. The review boards are trying to size you up to see if you are a good applicant for their institution so think about what they might want to hear from you to set you apart from 5000 other papers saying the same generic things. If you address these questions in addition to the rest of your essay you will show them you are a goal oriented person with ambition and drive. Good luck.

Hey, have you tried visiting Ucas?
