What actually happens in an IT concern?

Does an IT concern deals only with software development or also web application development. If your answer is both web and s/w development, then pls tell me what is the proportion of web developers to software(i mean off-line) development. Also i would like to know the demand for Ethical hackers in any concern?

ethical hackers - maybe in anti-virus systems, or network administrators to secure networks...

IT is just information technology. Maybe they do neither web pages nor software development, but external network administration, hosting, consulting etc. that's all IT.

about the proportion - nowadays, esp. enterprise software is often a mixture of web design and software development, i.e. if you have applications running in a VPN or intranet, and they are controlled over the browser.

I would say pure web pages are typically made by web agencies, not IT companies.
