Which offer shall I take?

I just got two offers. Offer A is doing the production support. The major part of the work is to do the bug fix everyday. The pay is decent and the company's growth potential is great. Offer B is the software development for the financial trading system. The company's growth potential is not as good as the company A and the pay is much lower than A. Although I like coding and development, I am not sure if I should accept A to do the support or B to start my career path as a developer in B. Does anyone know which career path will be good? I do need have some help on this issue to make the important decision. thanks

Hi Joe,

I'm assuming you're young and just starting your career. First, congratulations on getting two offers, well done. Obviously you have solid interviewing skills, so don't worry too much about which job you pick because it most likely won't be your last job.

Okay, decision time. Higher pay is always good because it becomes the starting point when negotiating your next job. The production support position may provide more opportunity to move into supervisory and then managerial positions if that's of any interest. But having said that, there is also nothing worse than spending your days in a job that is not challenging and fun. So if you feel your day-to-day existence will be okay, then go with the production support job but find a way to keep up your coding/development skills. Down the road, you might be able to move into a position that would use those skills at company A, meaning that ultimately you'd be doing what you want but at higher salary.

But if the idea of doing production support is just too depressing then NO WAY should you go for that job. Now if you really love coding and want to do that full time to develop your skills, then obviously company B is the answer. The financial industry can be a good industry, especially for technology. It's a regulated industry so it would be good for you to know something about some of the security and privacy regulations to set yourself apart from the other techies.

Best of luck to you.

go with whichever job you will like doing the most afterall youll be spending endless hours completing those task. And dont worry if a companies outlook isnt as great as the other. you can work at that company gain valuble experience and then get a job at a bigger company when one becomes available.
good luck
