Experience with Hand Surgery (pinkie)?

I recently found out that I need surgery to repair a torn (severed, actually) ligament in my left pinkie finger, at the first knuckle. If they can find an end of it, it will be sewn into my bone to heal. If they can't find it (not much faith they will, this has been going on for a long time) they will need to use the "extra" one from my wrist.

Question: has anyone had this experience, and how was it? I'm in software development, and my hands are my life. Plus I have a 1yo that needs diapers changed, to be picked up etc. Worried about recovery time and pain in general.

I've ordered voice recognition software to help me to deal with the 100+ emails I'm composing each day, other than that... I guess I just don't know what to expect and am hoping to hear from someone who has gone through this.

I guess they will harvest your palmaris longus to use for your pinky flexor.
I imagine that you will be able to "hunt and peck" type with your forefinger on your left hand, and your right hand, of course will not be affected.
More than likely you will be instructed to keep it immobilized for 2-3 weeks, then only gentle range of motion for another 2-3 weeks. Strengthening exercises after 6 to 8 weeks...but you should be able to type (minus the pinky) after 2 or 3 weeks.
