Switch over from technology to finance?

Hi-
I am a computer sc and engg graduate now in to software develpment for last two years. My work revolved around software development for a major US bank. Now I want to switch over to financial research, but I do not want to do an MBA. Any particular certification you think will help me make this switch over.

You won't get anything meaningful in finance without a strong accounting background.

The reason for this is recent legislationtion (like the Sarbane's Oxley Act) that is compelling corporations to hire accountants to handle finance positions because of their familiarity with accounting, auditing, and internal controls.
