Is it ok to burn cds on the company desktop?

I am in a software development company , I want to know if it is ok if I burn the personal data I downloaded on my company laptop in a cd from the laptop's burner. My peers are using their USB drives to transfer songs to their laptops which isn't allowed either so I want to know i it is ok if I write a cd

Perhaps you should read your company's policies to get clarified.

Probably not, just because it seems your company is really anal about using the work computer for personal purposes.

If you hadn't said the thing about the USB drives I would have said sure, go ahead - as long as you use one of your own CDs.

I think its against company rules, carrying storage media from or to office, unless otherwise its intended for company's business.
To be in the safer side better not to do such things. Once if you get caught, it may effect your future and you may get into legal issues.

I don't know what you mean by "personal data", but it sounds like you're hiding something. The company you work for can be sued, fined, or prosecuted for illegal activity that originates from their network. This is why most companies (and all should) have policies in place to keep personal use to a minimum. From an I.T. perspective, I think it's OK for users to log into online email accounts and occasionally to financial institutions. But when it comes to downloading things like music, games, or other forms of "entertainment", I view that as a drain on time and bandwidth, in addition to being a security risk.

Instead of worrying about yourself, you should be more concerned about the company you work for.

no it is not okay u shud follow the rules and regulation of the company. if others are listening to the songs or surfing the net for their own personal interest why u want to follow the suite u make ur own way cos as u said u r in a s/w development company and company do not allow access of computers for personal needs then why to come in the eyes of other people and i will suggest it is better to pay in a cyber cafe for burning rather than to listen to somebody for whom ur working and earning......i always follow 3 s first s is simplicity second s is social and third s is self-respect alongwith three p's first p is patience second p is practise and third p is peace.
