Anyone from the RCMP? I have a question...?

I recently wrote a research paper on Federal agencies in Canada parallel to America's.

After I graduate with my undergraduate in Computer Science, I was thinking of applying to the RCMP. They don't list any Task forces in the I.T field or Jobs (outside civilian careers) in I.T.

Encryption, A.I, and Software development don't seem to be very prevalent in the RCMP... Compared to the FBI they seem undesirable to work for in that field of study, nor does Canada have anything comparable to the NSA.

Hopefully a mountie will answer your question more definitively, but my guess is that the RCMP is like the FBI in that you will be a federal agent first (or in your case, a mountie) who happens to have specialized skills. In the FBI, most everyone except for clerical people are special agents, but they have special agents who are lawyers, medical doctors, aircraft pilots, and scientists with PhDs in all sorts of specialties, including computer science. I know the RCMP has what they refer to as "civilian members" who perform many of their technical tasks, as opposed to a "regular member" or mountie. I also know they are second-to-none in terms of their investigative expertise, and I'm sure they have the same kind of specialized divisions, such as a computer crimes division, where their regular members work, and which aren't fully detailed in their recruiting brochures and website. Good luck.

You didn't make it clear, but it sounds as if you are a US citizen. To join the RCMP I believe you have to be a Canadian citizen. Check out the RCMP website under 'careers'. Good luck!!
