Does anyone live in or near Naperville?

My husband and I are considering a move to Chicago and have heard good things about the Naperville area, can anyone who lives there or near there tell us about it? How expensive is housing and other costs of living? Is it safe? Are there any software development companies or jobs nearby? How long is the commute to Chicago by car and by train? Which of the areas near Naperville are the best? Wheaton, Aurora, Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Warrenville, Woodridge, Romeoville, others? Fun things to do nearby? Weather? We are concerned about how hot it gets there in the summer and how cold in winter. We live near Denver now, is it better or worse weatherwise? Are the people friendly? We are a married couple in our 20s, no kids yet but we would like to start a family sometime in the next couple of years. Is this a good place to raise a family? Any info you can share would be helpful.

The Naperville area is wonderful. If you are looking to start a family and raise a family that is the area to do it in. They have some on the BEST schools and day cares around. It IS expensive though. Be prepared. Taxes are a killer on properties. As for jobs etc, there are plenty. You will just have to look though. It also depneds on how far you want to travel. Do you want to drive, take a train, car pool? Driving can be tough, each day is different but I would figure on a 45minute drive on a good day to get into the city. The next best are to Naperville, in my opinion would be Plainfield or NORTH Aurora. Not too toot my own town but a tad bit south of Plainfield in a smaller town but up and coming called Minooka. Right off of both major expressways. I55 and I80.
The weather you will learn is unpredictable. Seems like it is hot (summer)or cold(winter). We only have those two seasons...lol It's can't be worse than Denver though. All in all to raise a family in the Chicago area would be great. There are so many things to do in the area. We have wonderful museums, zoos, art, architecture, culture to name a few things. Feel free to contact me for further info. I have lived near Chicago my entire life and would be glad to help you out with more specific info if needed. Good luck and welcome! BTW, most are friendly but just like anywhere else there are always the rude people.

Hi, i am from the Chicago area. It gets really hot here in the summer, and so cold in the winter that i don't like going outside sometimes. There is alot of gang activity in, and around Chicago. Alot, of shootings. I moved here 6 years ago, and now i have 4 kids. I am actually looking to move away from here in the next year or so. The violence is horrible. People are really rude if you are not customed to their way of living, so it took a while for me to actually start making friends here. The cost of living is expensive. A studio apartment is $600 to $800 dollars a month. A 2 bedroom apartment is $675 to $950 a month. It takes about 45 minutes to drive to Chicago on a good day. Navy pier, brook field zoo, and shedd aquarium are the main attractions in Chicago, and expensive may i add. Traffic is terrible, and people drive like maniacs. Hope this helps you!!

Naperville is very nice but yet expensive.
If money is no object i would highly reccomend naperville.
Plainfield is also very nice..
Have you considered someplace else such as the country?
You can go about 40 minutes west of Naperville to a town called Sandwich,IL. Its very nice. Has a population of about 7000. They are building new sub-divisions all over and its cheaper out there.
You can get a nice 3 bedroom for about $200,000.

hi!
im a chicagoan and i would like to welcome you to our beautiful city.
please don't mind some of your other answerers. i was born and have lived in the chicagoland area all my life. notice i said chicagoland. but i have family in chicago and see them every week, so i know everything about it.
i live around the skokie and niles area. which is a pretty reasonable living.i do have to agree that living inside the city is fairly expensive, and not as clean. but its more convienent.
though im happy where im living because its not to noisy and not to quite and everything is moderate.
im very happy for you on your move.
i have alot of family that lives in the naperville area. the houses are very beautiful and don't cost that much because they are farther from the city.
most of them are wood houses and people are investing alot in the area.
by the way, the area you are planning to move into is a very calm area and im sure there is not much violence there at all
