Has I.T. become a career with a bleak future?

I am a systems analyst and I am wondering about the future of that career. Changes such as outsourcing are shrinking the job market.

Other careers that pay as well as software development such as pharamcy, nursing, and physical therapist require going back to school which is expensive and time consuming, not to mention the effort required.

Does it make sense to stay in I.T. or is it time to abandon ship?

IT can never be completely outsourced. There will always be a need for systems analyst, database administrators and help desk technicians at the actual home base.

One sure fire way to never have your job outsourced? Get a job in the government.

no, I think it is still a very viable field, but it's not the candyland it was in the beginning.
