Accounting question about common and preferred stock..? |
CompuLead Inc., a software development firm, has stock outstanding as follows: 40,000 shares of 1%, preferred stock of $25 par, and 50,000 shares of $75 par common. During its first four years of operations, the following amounts were distributed as dividends: first year, $6,000; second year, $26,000; third year, $4,000; fourth year, $60,000. so it's dividends per share...like the answer to the 1st year is preferred 0.15 common 0.00 and the 3rd year is 0.10 for preferred and common 0 again..sorry accounting is just not my best subject! Preferred stock is paid first, so $10,000 must be paid before any common dividends. So $12,000 in common for the second year as the deferred $4,000 from the preferred in the first year needed to be recognized. $44,000 for common in the fourth, as $16,000 went to preferred including $6,000 for year three deferred. i was going to answer this but then thought well you did not really do anything y calculating the first and third year it all goes to preferred. |
