In the software consulting world is it difficult to get clients to allow developers to use their own machine.? |
I do software consulting but I would like to use my own laptop and I wonder if that is an issue with many/most clients I think work done on a consulting contract is "work for hire," regardless of where it's done, so I'm surprised at that previous answer. On the other hand, as an employer, for security reasons I would be leery of having an outside computer linked to my network. I would have no way of controlling what the contractor was bringing in, either knowingly or unknowingly. Legally, unless you have it in writing stating differently, if you use your hardware, the keystrokes belong to you. If you use their hardware, the keystrokes belong to them. |
