Software patenting.?

Hi all;
I wrote a small software and plan to sale it. My question is should I worry about get it patented. I heard software patenting is difficult, time consuming and costly. I personally prefer not to do it, but would like to consult you guys. Thanks.

I'm not a lawyer so this is just personal opinion. Just about every software I've ever bought was protected in some way so the developer could make money. If it's not protected, anyone could come along, steal the ideas, change them, apply for protection, and the original developer will probably have a difficult time establishing his rights to the program. The question is, do you patent software or copyright it?

One way or another I think anybody who creates something (book, music, software, etc.) needs to protect his financial rights to that creation. Did Bill Gates protect his software? You betcha.
