Is it bad to quit a job after 1 year? (my previous jobs are also < 2 years old although there is valid reasons |
After college (Computer Science major), I worked for 4 companies (2 start-up, 1 consulting, and 1 large software company). I worked for 1-2 years at each company. Then I got my mba. now, i worked for a large company for 1 year. Unfortunately, I had 5 bosses in 13 months. I've learned a lot in my job, but the management change is taking a toll on me. and the new boss is very bad, everybody hates to work for him. Should I stick around so that my resume will look better? or should i leave for better opportunities? Yes, it can be very bad if you can't convince future employers that you left those jobs for absolutely good reasons. At some point, you need to find something that fits you and stick with it. It sounds like that should ideally be your next job - too many short jobs and your next employer is going to worry that you might take a few months to train and get up to speed to then just stroll out the door. (That doesn't really matter if you're starting your own thing of course.) Now I'm not saying stay at a job that you hate that you're unlikely to fall in love with at any point. While it's probably fine that you've got a few companies with short experiences on your resume, it's probably time to buckle down and find something you're really passionate about and stick with that for a bit. :) It's been over a year and your other work history shows 2+ years so no it doesn't look bad at all. I recommend to my job seekers that they hold on to their position until they secure another one, especially in such a slow economy like this one. |
