Who has information about the file extention .VCD?

My company is holding a huge seminar this weekend and we're promoting it like crazy. In order to facilitate, our consulting company has issued promotional material in VCD format and I bought a load of 'em. I opened the VCD to find files in the format of .vcd. My business partner says that the film is playable on Windows Media Player, but so far I've plugged three CD's on two different computers and I couldn't launch it. I'm meeting some prospective partners tomorrow who will need to attend this seminar so I need to play the VCD to promote it to them.

Do you know what I need to do in order to make the VCD playable...perhaps download a plugin or a new software?

Thank you in advance for solutions--I promise to give 10 points for best answer without delay. Having said that, please note that comments that don't answer the question (i.e. stuff along the lines of "geez, I don't know," "your business partner lied," or "throw it away") will be reported as abuse.

Hi Answerers... sorry for the long response... I know I promised 10 points instantly, but I didn't realise that computers is like Greek to me, so I'm still in the process of trying out your answers one by one. Be patient for your 10 points--I still promise to give them. Okay?

VCD, is just a video CD format. I use VLC player to play mine. You may just not have the correct codec to play the file i recommend the Combined Community Codec Package. Just don't install the players with it. If that doesn't work then you just have bad CD's.

The codec package should work if you don't want to install VLC. I know the designers page is a bit "off".

Edit:
The VCD is setup so you can easily copy the file to your Hard Drive and then play them, This is what makes it different from a DVD. However, it should play in most newer DVD players. The problem is that the software on your computer does not know how to interpret the file extension. The easiest way to fix this is to install another either another program to play the file or install a codec package that includes the file extension as a known type.

It's a Video CD format. Use VLC Media player... it will watch almost every video format known to man, and is the only free DVD codec available that I know of:

a vcd file is a virtual CD that has to be mounted first beforei t is played. Check on www.download.com for a tool that will mount a vcd file. Once mounted it will play in Media Player.

VCD is standard format for video CD. You don't need anything special to play it. May be some players don't recognize it. You can try open .DAT file in disk with any player. I think some DVD players use them correctly. You may try http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/download/...
And download trial version.

http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdeta... it is much more complicated than dealing simply with a media viewer or a codec (or plugin) try downloading PowerISO http://www.poweriso.com/download.htm and mapping these disc images then you should be able to play them. If you are looking for a simpler solution you might try VLC Player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ . I am not positive it will play it but it plays nearly everything else I have thrown at it.
