Does anyone know anything about how to send multiple & different kinds of files so they can be easily opened?

I have a sending service for large files for our small consulting business, but although it can successfully get the folder or files to the recipient they often are not able to open them. How can I send them (i.e. drawing, picture files along with word docs) or convert them or contain them in a folder that will most likely be successfully opened at the other end. Apparently this is something others are having a problem with now that it's more cost effective and environmentally beneficial to send reports/documents electronically. I'd really appreciate any input you all may have. Maybe there's some new software that can convert different files prior to sending.... maybe there's something already available I'm not aware of.

Thanks lots and have the happiest holidays. Peace, Stefie

I think the problem you are describing is that you send the files, they arrive intact, but the person at the other end can't open them for some reason? Maybe because they don't have the program that they were created in?

PDF is probably the best answer to this problem. Convert all documents to PDF before sending. PDF readers are available for free for many different platforms. On Windows, Adobe Reader is free, and commonly installed on corporate and home computers. On Mac, Preview will open and print PDF documents. FoxIt Reader is available for PCs that are too old or slow to use Adobe Reader.

Creating PDFs is usually done with Adobe's Acrobat program. Adobe also has an online service for converting common documents to PDF, and there are less costly alternatives as well.

My recommendation is OpenOffice.

OpenOffice is 100% free - and will open and edit almost any file that you might use - to include graphics - built in PDF Generator.

In my opinion - it is one of the best free software suites on the internet today!

Also - to keep your downloads/uploads as friendly as possible - take a look at WinRAR. It is one of the best zip/compression software - with no in-your-face ads or other malware within the software.

I guess your biggest problem is with drawing files.

Anyone you are sending to should be able to open MS Word.
If they can't it's not your problem.

I work with drawings and convert to PDF for sending to clients.

If you need to put drawings into reports you can do so by viewing the drawing as a PDF in the Adobe Reader.

Adobe Reader allows you to cut and paste the drawing into any image viewer and saveas JPEG. Paste the JPEG into your report.

You could consider sending out all your documents as PDF.

It does mean you have the conversion overhead at your end but will mean no more viewing complaints.

Good luck.
