Finishing a horses undersaddle training?

I've been wanting to buy a "project pony" that knows the basics of being ridden. But then i came across a lot of green broke horses and was wondering how to finish them off. I tried googling them, but I didnt have much luck. So does anyone know of any articles about training a horse undersaddle or anything like that? Thanks.

The best way to find out how to finish a horse under saddle is to work along side a trainer who is currently competing. There are video's out there that help but having an experience trainer helping you is still the best. I have yet to hear of a person winning a million dollar futurity by watching a video. Not saying they are not help full but with out an experience trainer along side you, you don't know if your doing something right or wrong. I personaly have worked under 4 different trainers, before I started really training on my own. Luck

There are tons of books that can help you. One is by Robert Miller called Training the Western Horse( or Western HorseTraining and Behavior ) that explains things very clearly. It's old but should be still in print. Western Horseman, Horse and Rider, Equus, Performance Horseman are all good for articles. I could give you a lot more great books but I'm 3,000 miles away from home right now and can't get to my library!! If the pony has a good start , just keep building on that and add stuff slowly. It's practice that makes perfect

No articles, just experience, if you want that, let me know and I will share. It would entail much too long of a response here in this forum. No, you don't need to pay a trainer for that information, I don't train that much anymore, but I would be willing to share what I know. There are others like me that would rather see a horse get a fair shake and share what they know...they don't have clinics, they don't have tapes, but they have a bottomless well of information that you can benefit from...try it.
