Why is everyone in the world so heartless and mean?

After working at my job for over 2 years, never late, never called in, worked many shifts without even a lunch break, I got called to the office twice the last couple days and I came home yesterday. I have been under so much stress and my supervisor has been a real b lately. There has always been favoritism in the time I have worked there, the boss would go days without even speaking to me.
I was told that I was being sent to another department at the end of the month but would remain in my current department till then. I went back to my area, worked nonstop on a big project along with several others. I came in the next day and was called upstairs again and told I just wan't focusing enough and since learning I was being put in another area. I only learned I was being the day before and had continued to work nonstop on a project and came in to work the next day and continued with other projects so I couldn't have been slacking. They want me to be on the phone with a customer, ringing someone up at the register, and doing a project which required both hands and concentration. I would think that anyone that brought in an important project would want it to be done correctly with full attention not just shoved in with other less important things.
I asked if someone could give me a ride home because it was dark and my neighborhood is unsafe and I have to ride the bus, the boss said I would have to get home on my own, so I ended up being out after dark and walking home (the bus never showed up). I sent a nice heartfelt email to my boss because it only upsets me when I talk to her, and she has not even responded back. I presume I am fired as I have heard nothing. What shocks me the most is how cold m coworkers are, they don't even care. What ever happened to poeple carring about others and how do you shut someone out of your life that you have worked with for years. Also my coworker (the only other trained employee for the department got in trouble last week and I look for him to quit soon because all the work is put on him because the supervisor does nothing and she has to be off alot because her baby is sick, or she has to go to court, or this or that.
I feel really betrayed and have learned that hard work and being dependable and loyal gets you know where and people will stab you inthe back.
Is there anyone in the world left that thinks that the human race is going downhill in it's compasion for others?

And please dont shop at Office Depot as they treat their employees like crap.

Retail is known to be a very difficult occupation to work in (and I know, I worked in upscale fashion retail for three years), but it sounds to me as if you're looking at the world through mud-colored glasses, and are pretty much feeling more than a little bit sorry for yourself.

Self pity has never ever helped anyone, so if you want to get ahead both on the job and in life, you should probably drop that unattractive habit immediately because it's going to cause you to operate from a position of weakness and just make things even worse. No one likes to hear someone going "ah, poor me, pity me..." Looking like a victim only encourages people to victimize you more. I learned that lesson the hard way when I worked in retail. Made the mistake of crying in front of the boss...and for more than a year she NEVER let me forget it! I couldn't open my mouth without her saying "oh, you're not going to CRY, are you?" and she'd do this in front of co-workers, managers and customers. She didn't care. The really crappy thing here? I quit the job...but SHE got promoted! Not fair, but who says life is fair? That's just how some people and situations are...like it or not...but it's always your choice to decide how to act or react to them. If I had it to do over again, believe me I'd do it very differently.

Not everyone in the world is mean or cold hearted. There really are very good and warm and helpful people out there...and it's good to cultivate friendships with them. Those are the ones to turn to when you need help...and most of them will not be working with you.

You shouldn't be automatically expecting everyone to hold your hand all the time, especially on the job. Why are you expecting everyone on the job to be your best friend or your bosses to act in loco parentis? Don't you realize they may have problems of their own to deal with? that they have people breathing down their necks, too? It's not just all about you...nor should it be.

You're not a child anymore. You're an adult. So BE an adult and take responsible for your life and your actions! It's your personal responsibility to arrange for transportation to and from your job, not to depend on others for rides. If you live in an unsafe neighborhood, then either move to a safer neighborhood, get into a carpool even if you have to organize it yourself, get a bicycle or use a taxi to get to and from the job, get a walk buddy or learn self-defense skills to prepare for your walk home. I know this from experience because I had two years without a car and had to walk through dicey neighborhoods sometimes and still had to make bank drops as an assistant manager/manager trainee!

If you simply don't like your job, well then, maybe it's time for you to look for a different job... or return to school or learn some stress management/coping skills until you find work that better suits you...or just simply use the age old coping skill of "fake it till you make it."

Don't waste precious energy blaming the world for your problems or thinking the world owes you something, because they don't. It's your choice to either sink or swim in life. It's just that simple.

Today the world is changing in many ways. People are way too focused in with their life now. It's like, a game sort of. Live or Die. Everyone has a hell load of work to do everyday, especially since you are working in 'Office Depot' I am predicting. I'm not sure but 2008 hasn't been such a big thing for me. I was kind of bored of it, and nothing good happened to me. I really wished it was like 2007. Everyone was so different, and great then. But when it was 2008, all those spirits of happiness went down the drain.

First I have to say-without details of what your job description is-it's hard to say what should be expected-then you said Office Depot and I would then say this---that is the type of job that they would expect you to be able to stop doing something and go help customers (look for things, register, whatever) That is what the place constist of-so you have to help and then go back to your project. Not all people are heartless and mean--but it is your responsiblity to have a ride and in todays society-some are not comfortable giving others rides. You should not have emailed your boss something bad. You need to go in and discuss stuff and if still employed-find out exactly your job description and what is priority. To be honest-when I do go to Office Depot-I don't find the employees friendly at all-therefore should be talked to or canned. Customer service is what foots the bill--customers come first!
