What kinds of technology are used in the classroom?

I have a project in my foundations of education class that I really need a little help with. The assignment is:

Learn to use a technology that you have not used before, or learn a new application of a technology you have used before. Use the technology to develop a teaching product that you might be able to use in student teaching or in your first year of teaching.

I have to write a 700 word paper about my experience working with this new technology and developing this tool.

Problem is, I need some ideas of technology I dont already know about and that I can make a teaching product with. I have no experience here and am so lost!

What would you do? Any ideas would be wonderful!!

It doesnt seem like anyone is understanding. I need to learn how to use a new technology and then develop my own teaching product with it.

Have you seen/heard of an Activ Board or Promethean Board. They are interactive boards that can be attached to the wall or placed on wheels. You can hook a laptop up to a projector cart and make your lessons interactive. Students love writing on the boards with the stylus. They think it's the coolest thing since sliced bread. I often use the board and the cart for math lessons or a game show style review. There are remotes (Activ-Votes) that you can use as well. They come in a class set, so each student can have their own remote. Essentially, it is like a buzzer. You make a quiz/review for your students, the students choose a letter on their remote to correspond with one of your answer choices. They point it at the screen and wait for it to register.The neat thing about the activ votes is that you can view the class results. The program makes charts and graphs to represent the data it has collected from your students.

Have you thought about using some on-line applications? You may want to look at nicenet.com which gets students discussing books that have been read in class. It's safe and you can control the discussion group to only your classroom. I would also recommend taking a look at some writing software that I use with my students www.icanwriteonline.com. It's very motivating and easy to use.

One of the newest technologies to end-up in some classrooms is the smartboard. I'd recommend that if you haven't used it yet. You can find a manual to learn all about it.

How about Alpha Smarts or Dana Smarts? Also, you could use the computer for a power point presentation.
