Can the results of http://babelfish.yahoo.com be used commercially? |
I work as a web developer building websites commercially. Sometimes I need to localise the site in different languages. I often do not get the translations until the very end of the project. Would I be able to use the http://babelfish.yahoo.com service as a helper tool to see how the layout changes when in a different language? It would be great if I can. Thanks! I've tried talking to chicks online with it who couldn't speak very good English, but it didn't work. babbelfish gives loads of crap when translating, it might give ya a basic idea, but not much. It would give you an idea of the layout size and such, but as far as exact translation, Babelfish has some issues with Asian Kanji and the like, alot of times it will not translate it correctly. But still the size layouts will be near the same, the characters will change some, so you should be ok using it for that purpose. I'm not 100% sure what you mean, all i know is it is very hard to find an online translator that is very accurate, including babelfish. Babelfish isn't perfect with the basic online translating...remember, sentence structure makes all the difference in the world, as well as eclectic and obsolete words. It doesn't work when translating Eng to Italian or vice versa you get alot of stuff that doesn't make sense. In other word doesn't mean anything in either English or Italian or the word doesn't exist. what ever tickles your pickle You could use it, but I do not think it will be bery helpful. Babelfish is not a very reliable or accurate translation. If you were to actually post that translation you would have people rolling on the floor laughting at how bad it is. "All your base are belong to us". ] If you are not going to use the translation in the final release of your product there is no restriction on using the translation from babelfish. |
