Possible to find any software for adpative wavelet thresholding (image compression)

This is for my final year project, where I'm studying on the application of adaptive wavelet thresholding in processing medical image. So, I need a software that can do such adaptive wavelet thresholding.

The thing is, any search at google only returns research papers on adaptive wavelet, not much of any other information.

Anyone knows what can I do to obtain such software or tool, MATLAB codes or anything? I do have MATLAB so that would not be a problem,

Pardon my ignorance, I don't even know what wavelet thresholding is; but most open source projects are usually registered on sourceforge.net . I searched and it came up with 38 results.
