Why did God allow Katrina to happen?

God created a safe warm and nurturing place for mankind called the 鈥淕arden of Eden鈥? Mankind lied, cheated (disobeyed) and stole (took the fruit of knowledge without permission). Because of this, mankind was subsequently exiled from this safe place and given total free choice in every aspect of life. We chose where to live regardless of danger, how to treat our fellow man regardless of consequences and what to do with and to ourselves. If we wanted a safe place without evil people killing and maiming the innocent, natural forces threatening our homes or having to face the inevitable consequences of our actions (or inactions) then we should not have rejected the safe place God created for us so long ago.

God gave us all freedom of choice and if someone chooses evil whether it be a Hitler, Saddam Hussein or a local child molester, the choice we make is our burden to bear. The ability for all of us to choose good or evil is in our hands not God鈥檚 and to take away the choice of one evil person because of the effect on an innocent person means taking away choices for us all. If God took away the right of each of us to choose we would be mind numb robots and I know we would not be happy with that either.

I submit that all the bad things that happen in the world are a result of our choices collectively and individually. We are the cause and effect of good and evil in the world not God. We choose to live below sea level then blame God for the rain, We choose to live on a barren desert put up gambling casino鈥檚 and blame God because it does not rain.

If God had stopped every weather system that could harm us, what would that do to our environment? The earth cleans itself on a regular basis that is why there is a hurricane season, a flood season and a fire season. What would happen if we demanded that God stopped the Earth from doing what it must do to survive just for our comfort, whims and instant gratification?

God gave us a set of rules we should live by and written instructions on how to be as happy and productive as possible while living on Earth. We generally have chosen to ignore those teachings and make our decisions based on what pleasures us. We chose these things we want and then expect God to save us from our choices or limit the choices of those we do not agree with.

Because we all have free will and the will to be free we inevitably often cause our own destruction and tragedy. I believe we would not want it any other way however, we need to take responsibility for what we do and what we cause first by not blaming God for allowing us the freedom we so blatantly abuse.

First you need to do your own reading and homework that way you can get some idea of the scope of this hurricane.It wasn't the worse and will not be the last.All weather is an act of God he is in control of his universe,at all times.

It's just a natural occurring weather event. Just like thunderstorms, and tornadoes. They start out as tropical storms.

This storm was forecast. It was in the news for at least a week before it hit.
