What if I get into Project Planning without being on site(Constrction Industry)???

I am an Electrical and Electronics Engineer... Recently got a placement in a good concern as a junior Planning Engineer (not yet started working... got offer letter).. and I am a "Fresher". What bothers me is when someone says that if you want to excel Project Planning You must be first on site..Is that true?. what should I do .... 1.quit my current job as planner and join some work that gives me site experience.. or 2. continue my planning profession.... Please guide me I am in a great confusion...

I assume the person/company who gave you that offer letter knows that you are a Fresher. Since they know that you are a Fresher, they will not expect you to do full project planning right away. You will probably work under a senior project planner to learn from him/her about how that company operates and all the specifics of the job. You will also be taken out to construction sites as a junior planner to gain the experience to excel.

When you have a few years of experience as a junior planner (with *many* hours on-sites), and if your planning skills are evident, then you will be promoted to senior planner.

If the company who offered you a job does not know you are a Fresher, or they don't think it is relavent, AND you are asked to do senior-level project planning.... then you must gain the trust of another planner who has been with that company for some time, and ask them to mentor you.

Most companies will give you a several-month grace period to learn the specifics of company operation. You may take that time to tour construction sites (for which your company is planning) as part of your on-the-job training.
