Is Beirut / Lebanon safe place to work?

My husband from India would be visiting Beirut officially in the month of August 2008 . He has planned 3 months stay or x"tend it till his project compleates. My "CONCERN IS HIS SAFETY' as i have read and heard that its not very safe place.Im very tensed as its a new place and none of our relatives or friends have been there... Kindly help me with your prompt feedback. Need your valuable suggestions whether to make or cancel his trip! Thanks..

It is extremely safe, crime rates are minimal. Some tension occurs due to political tensions but most of them take place in remote or specific districts so isolated from the rest of the country. As for the previous events u read about now things have been changed and hopefully it keep like this for long time. Beirut is dazzling now with hundreds of thousands of tourists everywhere. So don't worry he is gonna enjoy his staying here.

I am an American woman living and working in Beirut with my Lebanese husband and I have been here for 3 months. Beirut overall is very safe, and the crime rate is so low compared to the US. The only problem is the political instability, although it has improved over the past month. I was here a few months ago when civil war broke out in several neighborhoods in Beirut and militants blocked the road to the airport. I had a flight the day after the fighting broke out and was forced to cancel. However, there was no fighting in the neighborhood I am in and I was going about my daily business as normal. So there are some risks, but I would say they are quite acceptable risks - Beirut is very calm right now.

lebanon is a safe place to live and work. i understand your concern but the fact is that the media dramatize things for political reasons. actually beirut is one of the very few places I have ever been in where you can return home at midnight without a fear of being jacked.

Lebanon is very safe, its all about the media that maximizes the issues. imagine during 06 "war" with Israiel we used to go clubbing, actually we used to go everywhere execpt few regions :)
there is political i nstability but its getting better, so no need to worry this much!

Lebanon is as safe as anywhere else in the world...even safer...because the only danger is a war and that is predictable because when there is political tension you know something will happen...we don't have hurricanes, or natural disasters or murders or tornadoes, or tsunamis...

lebanon is very safe and now that they have a president and they have settled things n israel, lets just say there is an increased rate of people visiting from all over the world. Lebanon is a very beautiful place and ur husband will be just fine
