Lamborgini replicar?

Hello, im 17 looking to build a lamborghini replicar from scratch as a senior project with my friends. I have a Pontiac Fiero for the chassis, what i need though is opinions, and information that will assist me in building it. Im quite nervous about doing this, and i would just like some tips to help me. And if there are any plans on how to build it without stretching the fiero, i would appreciate a point in the right direction. Thanks!

I too was contemplating such a project a few years ago ( I'm 19 now). My uncle's brother built a countach replica, widely regarded as one of the easiest replicas to make. He is 45, and has worked on cars his entire life, body work, mechanical, and electrical... And the replica took him over 4 years to complete, and about $15,000 not including the fiero and fiberglass countach body. There are so many things that go into this project, that you really wouldn't think of originally. You are bound to run into unforseen problems, or problems that require a proffesional's help, which becomes costly. The fiero frame usually requires cutting, or the body will not fit properly, and the kit will look very poor, you would not believe how much 1-2 inches stands out on these cars. After the obvious expenses (countach fiberglass body, fiero chassis customizations, etc), there are the small things such as, headlights, headlight covers, taillights, taillight covers, windshield, door glass, rear glass, etc. Then you run into the problem that is: The bodies NEVER fit perfectly. A lot of these cars have problems with the windows not fitting correctly, the doors may rub when opening and closing, the hood and trunk don't fit onto the new body, and custom fabrication is necessary. Then the electrical issues come into play, even if you keep the stock engine/ECU/wiring harness/etc... odds are you will have to re-route some wiring because of the extended frame, and to the new headlights and such. It gets even more complicated if you wish to put an aftermarket gauge in it, (very common on replicas), you need to get a cluster that corresponds to the ECU. The biggest issue my uncle's brother had was this: the replica kept overheating. He has since custom fitted two radiators to keep his car cool, because idling is very rough on these cars. Remember, the cooling system is designed very specifically for this mid engine car, and all of that will have to be reworked for the longer chassis/modified front end.
There is much more, but at least you have a good idea of what's involved. If you really want to do it, I'm sure you could cut some corners, but if you want a worthwhile project, it's best to do it right the first time!

Euroworks makes both a countach kit and a Diablo kit that do not require the frame to be cut. You could also check out the Artero, which is a kit that RESEMBLES (Not a Replica) a Lamborghini but fits on a stock fiero. Any of these options will be a considerable amount of work. I have built several kit cars, and the Diablo I built still took almost 2 years to build. I would not discourage you, just make sure you know how much work it is.
