What does med school look at?

I am going into 9th grade and I want to be a neurosurgeon.
I hope to attend Columbia, but I'm scared if I do get in, I'll do bad.
I am going to a very prestigious private school in NY. I plan to do well there, join a lot of clubs, do community service, win a couple of different accolades, hoping to do well on SAT 1 & 2s, and also work on a project for the Intel Science Talent Search. But, I'm really scared if I go somewhere prestigious, I'll do bad, and med school will reject me. I know schools like Columbia don't have very helpful teachers, but..well..
Just give me your opinion on this..

First of all, everything you mentioned isn't worth diddle to Med Schools. They don't look at High school stuff at all, or if they do its a minor thing and not a major plus or minus. What good high school stuff will do for you is get you into a good University. Even this isn't a HUGE benefit, but at the very least it will help you get into the medical school of that university (which will probably be very good). The only other major benefit of going to a good undergrad is that it gives you more opportunities to succeed and do impressive things. What matters is what you do in your undergraduate years at Columbia or another school and your MCAT. So everything you mentioned in your High School goals (P.S. take the PSAT and get a national merit scholarship), redo in college. Medical community service, work at a clinic, do research, etc.

You don't apply to med school after high school. You need a 4-year college degree to apply to medical school, and those are the only grades they are interested in. So go to the good high school, do as well as you can, and try to get into a good college for pre-med. You don't have to go to the same school for pre-med and medical.
