I plan to do a project similar to statcounter.com i just need the basic java script code to track the visitor of a website. can anybody help me?

Its very likely that the type of code you are looking for is either a cgi or php application .. try searching for visitor tracking @ http://www.hotscripts.com or cgiscript.net.. Normally javascript is not used to create the databases necessary to process cookies..
