Physic's project opinion? |
I am presenting a project for a competition and my physic's teacher says its fine but i just feel my project is not difficult or advanced enough for my level. I am using Snell's Law n1sin(t1)=n2sin(t2) In order to find the speed of light in both glass and water. First I am placing a piece of glass on a table and setting t1=30 degrees. Then I am pointing a laser at the glass and measure t2. With these measurements and the accepted value of n1 through air i am going find n2 or the index of refraction through glass. Then im gonna use n=c/v to determine the speed of light through the glass. Now i have glass box with the same dimension as the glass before and im going to pour water in the box and using the information i calculated previously i am going to find the index of refraction and speed of light through water. Afterwards i am planning comparing the experimental values of the speed of light through glass and water to the accepted values. What do you think? How are you doing the timing? A lot is going to depend on this, since the distances are so short that it will be easy to get large error bars (I assume more than one try each). |
