To Move or Not to Move... |
My wife wants us to move back to Arizona from Michigan. I have a good job in Michigan, but I don't feel like I contribute much to my company (I'm the web guy, and there isn't so much web stuff to do, while the low level programmers and project managers work their rears off...I scramble to stay busy, but I'm starting to get lazy I think, which is not good). My wife has an ok job. We just tried to buy a house in Michigan for the second time, but it is falling through. I have a condo in Arizona that I had before I got married. My renter recently left, so for the past three months that condo has really drained us, plus it is one of the reasons we can't buy a house. I'm trying to sell the condo, but at this point I'd probably sell it for a 5 to 10k loss, so I can't even afford to sell it. So my wife wants us to move back to the condo. I checked out the job market, and it looks pretty good. The big issue is that if we leave, I have to put in my two weeks in the next day or two, as I'm transitioning from being a contractor to a full time employee at my company. I'd feel really bad if they went through the hassle to pick me up and then I quit right after. So it is decision time. I'll listen to all input. The risks are that we don't find jobs right away, the benefits are if we both do we can live in the condo for a few years, and hopefully save money, pay down debts, and then be in a much better situation. We leave beind friends here and a great, real church, where the people are legit and really nice. I think that will be hard to find in Arizona. What do you people think? I won't decide based solely on what I find here, but I'm open to your opinions. Thanks. Ok...well...I actually took the time to read all that. Perhaps because I've been there, done that. This calls for some real 'soul searching'. You have to seat down and think all this in detail. Make a list of pros and cons with your wife. It sounds like it would be a good idea to move back to your condo. But on the other hand leaving friends is hard, but believe or not, it is part of life. My sister lives on the west (Arizona actaully) and people are really nice and friendly. Making new friends won't be hard, plus you have your wife. I would to it. It will be easier on you financially, and your skills are easily transferable to another business. Plus the winters in Michigan are rough. |
