Apartment manager whos car was just set on fire. can someone help me understand this???

i manage a 85 unit apartment complex, in a gang related, latin community. im white. fathers owned building and managed it 4 30 years. has helped every single tenant here, n some way or fashion, over the years, whether it b going out of his entire way 2 take a "project" and turn it into a good place to raise a family, where many extras are given to make a comfortable, clean, safe environment, 4 all tenants, because he likes people, and it makes him feel good 2 give back because hes been lucky, and always given back more than he receives. because of this philosophy, anything he touches has been successful. 3 years ago, we lost our on site manager, and i stepped up 2 the challenge. 85 units, 120 families, and ive only had a couple of problems that i was able 2 get out of. well, borrowed my late mothers Cadillac, all knew that it was not mine, and still someone lit it on fire tonight, because they didn't like me following enforcing the rules. dont understand this. why take it out on my dad

My dad does not live here, and everybody has respect for him, but alot of them are takers, and see me as a rich white boy, and they have relentlessly tried to break me. and im only talking about a small few of the problem tenants, the majority adores me.

Today's society is really screwed up. The youth of today don't see things or value things like we did(i'm 39). The youth of today see's no value in anything.... material or human. They (especially the gang kids) have been de-sensitized to violence (of any sort). They have grown up with guns, violence and drugs that have altered their idea of what is right and wrong.

You and your family have given, and feel like you should get respect... and you have every right to feel that way... and you SHOULD get respect and greatfulness for what you have done and given to your tenants.. however... today is a society of "gimme, gimme, gimme", "what can I get from you?"... and "i deserve more" and if they don't feel like they have been given enough... they will "show you" who is really in control. In a violent way. It's a total power struggle... it's a JOKE. The younger generation controls the adults by fear and intimidation. Am I the only one that sees this???? I can't believe I am.

It is totally screwed up and it is totally NOT RIGHT. I hate to say it but the USA is a really messed up place these days... our society is falling apart at the seams and it will take an act of God to set us straight again.... first it was out "latch-key" kids and it has now moved onto all these kids growing up with no supervision at all. The parents either have drug/alcohol problems or they have to work 2 or 3 jobs to support their kids... There are no parents raisin these kids.. the kids suffer and think they are adults at the age of 10. They think 20 yr olds are OLD and have NO RESPECT for ANY authority! ... the adults my age started growing up with fast food and convenience... now kids are growing up thinking (at 11) that they are OWED something from everyone.. it's beyond fast food... it's I WANT IT MY WAY NOW and if they don't get it... someone dies or property is damaged in retalliation... it's sad but most everybody is afraid to stand up and say .... SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE..... until society stands up and says we have really f**cked up something... nothing is going to change and it will just keep getting worse.

20 years ago ppl didn't freak out if they forgot to lock their doors and windows before they went to bed.... today, if you forget to lock them... chances are you were raped, beaten, robbed or murdered just because you wanted fresh air or to enjoy a night time breeze.

How sick is THAT????? PPL, there has to be a change.... why should a car be destroyed because a tenant was po'd about rules being enforced.. they knew the rules... why did this family become a crime victim just because they wanted to give the other tenants a decent place to live??? It's time to stand up and make a change.... well that's what I think. It's only gonna get worse if we don't start making some internal changes.

To the "Asker" I am truly sorry for what endured. Just know that you do have tenants that you are making a wonderful home for. You sound like you are a landlord for the right reasons... you HAVE and WILL make a difference for many ppl. Hold strong.... for every one person that retalliates your rules... you have MANY tenants that those rules have been a God Send to and that may have saved the lives of many others.

Anger is not logical..they wanted to hurt you..they did...but, really it is not about you, but something in the past that this instant reminds them of...They have deep seated issues and act out in this manner blessings

It's very eazy.You dad is a nice guy.You'r dad is not alone everyday bad things happened to good people when they step in help other people.If I were you I won't work in a gang related community .I would hire someone to work there but not me.Even cops who have guns and everything don't like to to work in gang area of part the city.If I were you I tell my dad to get out that place and stay away....b/c if they burn the car today what is next? Is it worth to risk your dad's life to creat nice area to live for families where your life or dad's on the line?
