What is the meaning of WBS in project management?

Work Breakdown Structure.

Starting with the project definition, you use a WBS to breakdown the project into smaller and smaller elements. This defines the scope of the project i.e. exactly what needs to be done.

It does not include timing or sequencing information.

PMI has a practice standard describing how to create a WBS - the last link below.
