What differences are there in managing a department vs project management?

What are the differences and similiarities between the 2 roles?

Managing a department is managing payroll, resources: human capital as well as other resources; seeing that the department achieves it's goals and objectives.. Managing a project could involve allot of similar things, however each project has a time line: start and the end, and goals are much more specific. This can be a 10 page essay, so I'm giving a quick 2-minute overview.

???

Managing a department is essentially an on going continous work.Managing a project -means working from a specified starting date and completing it by a certain deadline. There is a specific time frame for the project .Managing a department will also have many routine activities whereas a project is usually comprised of a lot of non routine activities .However every job -in a department or stand alone -as the number of non routine tasks increase -and you are trying to priorotise on tasks and resources and time -you tend towards project management
