Does anyone feel like their REAL HONEST resumes are STELLAR?

I'm sick of feeling like I have to live up to old-school employment mentality on my resume (stability, loyalty, etc). I'm in IT Consulting and I have to take whatever I can get -- and that means roles that are all over the place, companies that go out of business, short project terms, and gaps in employment. I feel very insecure when it comes to the actual interviews after reading all of the "Ace the Resumes" books that tell you employers are suspicious of employment gaps and lack of focus (which I view as versatility and an ability to learn and adapt quickly). It makes me feel like I have to hide a lot, hence the insecurity. When are interviewers going to get with the times and understand what the REAL market is like and stop viewing these little nuiances as blemishes or things to be looked down upon. I know most of us don't have control over how long companies stay in business or budgets for projects, etc...

Do a functional resume rather than a chronilogical one.

If a company goes out of business or you were laid off, let the employer knows. If you take short term assignments, say that you worked short assignments because they were offering you the opportunity to learn different areas of the IT business. Or that you were a consultant to put systems in order.

If you are looking for a more permanent position, let them know that you liked being a consultation, but you are ready to work for a business that's more stable.

I've learned to fudge my reasons for leaving positions, since I get bored with a job after a year or two. However, I don't make up jobs or lie about what I've done.

Actually, once I am done with this current job, YES. I will be proud of my resume even though it is not perfect but its very close being that it shows I am well-rounded as an individual as well as a professional. I need more money bad thats my only faux pas!
