Can I deduct Parking for my current project?

I work for a consulting company and I usually work at the client's site. I currently have to pay $11/day to park at my current client. Parking at my company when I am between projects is free. Neither my company nor the client will pay for the parking. Can I deduct this expense since I only incurr it because of my current project assignment?

w. g.'s answer is correct assuming you are an employee. You should also know that your total miscellaneous itemized deductions, including the parking, must exceed 2.5% of your adjusted gross income. And, employee business expenses are first reported on Form 2106 and flow from there to Schedule A, Itemized Deductions.

If you are paid as contract labor (you receive a Form 1099-MISC instead of a W-2) then your income and your expenses are reported on Schedule C.

The $11/day is a commuting expense.

If the client is your main place of business while you are assigned to the project, it's *your* commuting expense and not deductable.
