At the end of each annual year - the person who contributed the most on Yahoo Q & A wins a cash prize ?

would this make the facility a little better ? perhaps we'd all start reading literature and stuff to answer questions that normaly would be out of our expertise and beyond the scope of our knowledge ? lol

i dunno...but the idea that after each year, a series of '$$$' prizes are dished out for the following:

a) Best 'Top Contributer' (in terms of # of best answers)
b) Best 'Emerging Q & A person (based on # of best answers and speed @ which they're going up levels)
c) Question of the Year (goes to the one person, ANYBODY, who asked that one question which had EVERYBODYS heads spinning)

d) Funniest Question of the year (self explanatory, stupid questions are not inclusive though)

$$$ prizes for the above would be sent out by wire transfer or checks as the following amounts

a) $2000
b) $750
c) $500
d) $100

it'd be pretty cool don't you think ? or are the complications/serious flaws with this idea ? I dunno - you tell me, thats why I asked this question. Get back to me on this one too folks.

sounds fecking fantastic...but with one major flaw??????????
seen as the majority on here with top contributor badges, and so forth are running multiple accounts, and also in a tight group where they take it in turns giving each other best answer..or giving themselfs best answer..sad i know but a FACT. itll never happen,as long as ive a hole in my ar5e????????

Although the concept is nice, the reality would be a nightmare! Y/A! is worldwide with millions of Q & A a day. Not to mention, any money Yahoo had would go to people Yahoo would have to pay to sift and sort through all the questions and answers! Wouldn't leave much for a cash prize. Plus, with that kind of expence, free Yahoo would not longer be able to be free.

Sure, it would be amazing but really, I don't think Y!A would think it would be too cool. They would have to pay $3350 bucks a year and there are probably millions of users worldwide. It would take time and money to go through records of every single day of the year.

Keep dreaming, but there are serious flaws. Sorry, good luck though ;p

Where does the money come from?

Does it become a pay site?

Or just a pay site for non-Yahoo subscribers?

Or would the advertisers put up the prizes?

personally I 'm happy with the gratification of helping someone else, occasionally saying something clever, or smacking someone who deeply deserves it.....

yeah, the problem is that yahoo ain't gonna shell out over 3,000 bucks a year to us dullards. Who's gonna put up this 3k, you? Yahoo knows that folks here do what they want, they aint gonna pay you to do it.

yea it wud be cool

Anyone answer mines!

Good idea but there would be the inevitable arguments about quality over quantity and all that that would involve.

Would be a good idea, but since Yahoo Answers doesn't just apply to one country, who would be the judge? How would money be allocated? etc.. I think it would just be too complicated to be honest.. nice thought though!!

i think 2000 would be a little much, and where would they get this money? Y!A might cost $ because to give $$$ they have to make $$$

The biggest problem with that idea is the same problem with the reward system that鈥檚 already in place 鈥?points and top contributor plates 鈥?and that is that it鈥檚 all based on quantity; there is currently no system in place to measure the true quality of an answerer鈥檚 contributions. That can only be done by some kind of peer review. I think they should really be looking to put something like that in place, but I can鈥檛 see it happening.

Secondly, the idea of monetary incentives, I think it鈥檚 inconsistent with the spirit of this site: the idea is that we both give and receive in terms of knowledge and personal growth; so participation should in itself be more than sufficient reward. They should either scrap recognition and incentives altogether or strengthen the system so it鈥檚 less open to abuse.
