I want to give my old computer to my sister, but with a clean slate. No files, just XP. How do I do that?

I have an XP disc and have already transferred all the files I want to my new computer. I know how to install XP on a blank drive but I don't know what to do in this situation.

Can someone give me step-by-step instructions? I'm rather new to doing much with computers and my knowledge is limited to the basics of hardware. I'm really not comfortable screwing around in the BIOS and would rather not get in to downloading more things. If I have to, I will, but it would be nice if I could avoid it.

It's Dell Dimension E310. I just switched to a custom build and am fobbing it off on my sister. :P

Zedder's got it - just reinstall XP. The install even warns that all files will be permanently removed. I'm pretty sure the install reformats the hard drive.

To clear everything off the C Drive, double click My Computer, right click the the C Drive, choose Format & format the drive. This will wipe everything off your drive. The only thing is - if your sister is knowledgable enough & nosey enough, she could buy software to restore all the data back, but, I don't know anyone who could be bothered doing this or paying out the cash for this.

By the way, you're a good sister!

is it a desktop or a laptop? newer laptops usually have the option of "restore" to factory settings, which should clear everything.

alternatively you could put in the XP disc and choose a clean reinstall. this should wipe away your files

finally if you can't do those, format the drives manually and then boot from the CD.

it shouldnt take long to delete all your files. if you have 45 minutes than you can just reinstall xp and all the files will be deleted leaving you with a clean XP

just give it to her and she will love

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttt...

ttyl
