What are the possible effects of human excretia entering the upper digestive system?

Yes, very weird question I know, but I was curious.

I am studying abnormal psychology, such as phobias and fetishes, and recently I had been reading about 'copraphagy', a copraphagist being a person who desires to eat human excrement. I am absolutely astounded that there is anybody that would dare do such a thing, and I was curious as to what the possible physical effects could be of such an activity, preferably from those with medical knowledge rather than just guesses.

The small intestine is supposed to be a sterile environment. Any colonization by bacteria would result in illness. Fortunately, the stomach has enough acidity to make coprophagia "relatively safe." Note that cysts and other dormant forms of pathogens can safely pass through to the colon and then hatch and begin their pathological activities.
