How do you deal with a person at work with lots of job knowledge, but wont share it?

This person obviously wants to maintain whatever competitive edge they have within your company. My first thought is to try and befriend this person. Let them know you are not trying to step over them, you just want to help your company put out the best product possible. One way to befriend people is to invite them to lunch or to a poker party after work, or some other function. If it's real bad, and doesn't get better, maybe the boss needs to find out.

if you need his information and knowledge then you have to find out to get his friendship and to be patient for that, then if you get his friendship you will easy get his knowledge.
But if you don't need his knowledge then ignore him and let him go to hell
