Wanting to expand my financial knowledge.

I need some suggestions. I am currently earning an associates degree in management/marketing.... However, I am really interested in finance and i want to earn a bachelors degree in finance... I pretty much know all about stocks, mutual funds, bonds, pretty much all the basics plus some... But since I have an interest in this what more should i learn? For example is there any sites explaining what is needed to know about corporate finance? Or what is other criteria I should know? thanks!

I teach a survey class on Corporate Finance, so I try to read promising books on the topic. Here are a couple of books I would recommend:

Berman, Karen, and Knight, Joe. Financial Intelligence: A Manager鈥檚 Guide to Knowing What the Numbers Really Mean. Boston: Harvard Business School Press, 2006. Very readable overview of financial reports that emphasizes the decisions behind how the numbers are tracked and reported.

Bogle, John C., The Battle for the Soul of Capitalism. Yale University Press; New Ed edition, 2006. The author, founder and former CEO of Vanguard Financial Group, has been called 鈥渢he conscience of the (financial) industry.鈥? In this book he examines causes of the bubble of the late 1990鈥檚 and considers how much threat still lurks in today鈥檚 business and investment practices. Since you are just getting started in business, you will be facing the issues Bogle outlines; hopefully, you will also contribute to their resolution,

Investopedia... and believe it or not Wikipedia is sometimes helpful too.

I second the suggestion about the WSJ. Reading it daily is like keeping your finger on the pulse and it WILL expand (and in many cases, refine) your financial knowledge. I guarantee that.

Learn the formulas which calculate yield, present value, future value, cash flows IRR's and the like.

I'm pretty much in the same shoes as you are, I'm working on my Bachelor's in Finance and Accounting right now.

I'm pretty knowledgeable about it all but that's only because I have hardcore investors in my family so I kind of grew up with the lingo. Obviously you're not going to learn the material in here, but it's a good place to get recommendations for where to look.

For starters, I recommend watching CNBC during the daytime because they constantly follow the stock market and talk about what you'll end up needing to know. Take Finance classes at a 4 year university, and accounting classes help a lot... Although Finance is a great degree to have right now, Accounting is better (even though it's boring), and if you are able to double major in Accounting and Finance, you're almost guaranteed to find a good job in Finance... one that will pay for you to go to graduate school if you want.

Some other things that you can do are,
1) Get the Wall Street Journal
2) Talk to investors if you know any... if you don't, get connections
3) Go to a bookstore and buy Financial books... there's a lot of them that will teach you the starters
4) When you do go to a 4 year university, join a business fraternity!!! I pledged Delta Sigma Pi last year and they've already taught me so many things about business, and you also meet a lot of people who have the same goals and aspirations... connections are the best thing to have at our age.
