I waswondering, if your prospective employer did a background check, who gets the results?

To give you a background, I wasn't completely honest with the person who interviewed me regarding my current employer. HR asked me to fill out a sheet with previous employers for the last 3 years and I didn't put my current one as I've only been here for 3 weeks. When the results are received, does it stay with HR or do they give it back to the person who conducted the interview (i.e. business manager, etc). What is the SOP? Is the interviewer only informed if there's a problem with the background check?

If you didn't mark on your application your current job, then your potential employer won't know that you worked there, there's no database that has every job worked by every person. Also, the background check will probably stay confidential in the HR department, but if you want to obtain a copy of it, you have the legal right to do so.

Typically, the HR department is the one who handles records, but lying on an interview is typically grounds for dismissal. Chances are, the person who hired you, is not the person you interviewed with, but they probably do communicate quite often about other personnel related matters. The short answer to your question could be as simple as: any one who wants the results, that is of a higher rank in the company, probably has access to them.
