Do you think Global Warming is just another money making scheme?

I had heard (no facts, just rumor (rumour)!) that Al Gore and some certain select uber-rich individuals are investing in all these Global Warming related business, i.e. business whose sole product is granting carbon credits to other businesses for cash as well as other "Green" initiatives. I do find this all extremely possible as in my opinion "all" politicians are crooks to one level or another. With the kind of media availability these politicians have they could sell ice water to eskimos given the right wonky story. Your ideas folks? Is it really doom and gloom or let's take all their money and put them under our power?

I'm not convinced about Global Warming but I do believe in periodic climatic shifts. They've gone off and on for millions of years. Before man, who stopped all raging forest fires that were started by lightning and such? Burned multiple millions of acres and filled the sky around the world with smoke. Now, I do believe we have an impact on the environment. I'm concerned about the loss of forests. Particularly large tracts in South American and Africa. I think the world should pay these poor countries without exports, not to cut their forests down. Their export could be the carbon recycling their forests provide. I think we should have moratoriums on additional building worldwide (on previously unused lands) in addition to population sizing (Birth control). There are many things that could be done but what the political global warming crowd are after now is your money and not for the good of the earth.

Yup. A lot of the "crap" coming out is WORSE than the "crap" they are trying to replace.
The "new" long lasting light-bulbs, with MERCURY in them; IF you break one, "legally" you need a "HAZ-MAT" team to clean-up & dispose of it!!!
I've heard MORE & WORSE polution occurs in "making" ethanol fuels.
I wonder how many other "green" solutions are ACTUALLY BAD for "the Planet"?!!??!? I'm pretty sure there's nothing "WE" do that causes "G-W", AND there is nothing "WE" can do to stop "it"!!!

Al Gore & friends delivered their compelling presentations and all of a sudden you're an idiot if you don't believe for certain that we're causing global warming.

Well, I'm not jumping on board just because everybody else has.

There is a great deal of scientific evidence that shows we may very well be causing no global warming at all.

Could we be causing global warming?
Absolutely!

Could we not be causing global warming?
Absolutely!

The government is pretty shady but global warming is happening! We are too self absorbed to focus on what we are doing to the earth and the people that do there is very very little of them and the politicians will do anything to make it seem like they care about this issue hence making more money off of us. We need to take care of Mother Earth however there should not be a gimic to spend money in the process. Does this make sense? Hope it does! Take care!

It has yet to be proved that man has any significant effect on global warming and until it has, I refuse to take action. People may not like my position and that is fine. They don't have to. If they want it to change, they have better start producing some significant facts and evidence. As it stands now, it is all gloom and doom

Yes, 'global warming' is a scam, and the profits are being funneled to tight-knit leftist controllers. By all appearances the scam is about two things...making money, and furthering an ultra-extremist form of socialism the likes of which this world has never seen. It has nothing to do with climate.

No it is not another money making scheme . It is real ,real , real REAL . The ice caps are melting .The animals are dying .Not to mention the SEA LEVEL is raising . And global warming in case you haven't noticed is making the storms worse and bigger and more destructive . That's proven . And that's also what i think.

P.S (Not trying to sound mean :)

Of course. Nothing, but nothing sells like fear, and in this country, it's become our biggest product. The country has fallen apart in 7 short years; global warming is way down on a very long list of things to worry about.

Yep, Al and his cronies are raking in millions due to this lie. Meanwhile, he continues to fly in private jets and use 19 times more energy than you or I.

http://tennesseepolicy.org/main/article....

It's a con game. Global warming has not/can not been proven with irrefutable data.

if you look around, you will see "green" products popping up all over. these items are either not harmful to the planet, or are carbon neutral in their production. big business is doing this because there is profit to be made from it. government is pushing this again because there is money to be made from it through taxes. al gore is pushing it because there is money to be made from it, and there is political power to be had for him. granted this sounds cynical, but it is the truth like it or not.

Well, while its not a complete farce, it is a convenient way for politicians to make money.
Global warming is happening. However, it is nothing new. It is all part of the normal cycle that the earth has gone through for billions of years. We didnt cause it and we cant prevent it. No matter what we do. However, there are many people who feel the need to blame humans (mainly americans) and try to get us to attempt to do something to prevent it. They attempt to make us afraid and scare us into buying "global friendly" products or donating to some "earth friendly" organization that doesnt do anything or have any control over the natural cycles of the earth.
Rather than freaking out about global warming, why not just be greatful that we are fortunate enough to live in a time where we can witness one of the earths natural cycles...much like the humans at the end of the ice age.

Global Warming is a hoax created by internationalists (ie David Rockefeller) in order to scare the populace into giving in to the laws they are wanting to pass on a global level. The government would love to get people to buy into this lie because it will give them more power to implement laws (more governmental control) and also to be able to tax people for their "carbon footprint" (more money).

More money and more control for the government is what global warming is and it is caused by lobbyist such as Al Gore along with neoconservatives and liberals.

Big con game that is costing people jobs and lives (corn going to create E85 that would otherwise be used for food).

They are all 'do as I say not as I do' as they globetrot around in their private jets and stretch limos preaching that compact lighbulbs are the answer...but why stop there...how about that that flat screen tv?....oh and how about the computers we're using? A lot of plastic and toxic metals in that hard drive and monitor eeeewwww lots of wasteful energy usage there!

good grief -- I'm embarrassed at what people in the future will read about this time frame in history class.

A patent clerk in a previous generation rightly said 'imagination is more important than knowledge.' You demonstrate more imagination with this question than the wide-eyed madmen who believe that it MUST be the end of the world. No paranoia is greater than that of the man who believes humans are the most powerful force in the physical universe.

"All politicians being crooks" may be a (slight?) exaggeration, but Al Gore certainly has made a lot of money from the topic of global warming (speeches, etc). Taxes led directly to the American Revolution according to Benjamin Franklin & carbon taxes are never far from Gore's lips, so yes, I do believe the issue is about money and power.

The eschatological claims of global warming are used to defend what the believers call "action." Carbon credits & arbitrary restrictions of your freedom are small prices to pay for the salvation of the Earth.

In 50 years who would remember Al Gore from a hole in the ground if he never got involved in Global Warming?

Eleven answers so far, and no one has yet given you the information that would seem to answer your question, although it may raise others.

From the document, "The Prudent Trustee," 3rd link below:

"Over past decades, the markets we invest in, the companies we gather into our portfolios, and the world in which both markets and companies function have all changed radically. The role of the prudent, responsible fiduciary is evolving as well. Responsible fiduciaries are those who recognize there are shifts on the horizon that may negatively affect assets under management鈥攁nd then act to communicate their evolving expectations to fund managers capable of achieving the long-term performance goals established by the fiduciary.
The responsible fiduciary seeks to be strategic, setting meaningful goals for their fund managers to integrate long-term factors into performance criteria that will optimize the return on assets while generating those returns over the long haul in the context of the many changes within markets and around the world.
It is no wonder our understanding of appropriate investment strategies and the role of the fiduciary have evolved over the years鈥攁nd continue to develop beyond what we have understood in the past. We are presently in what is simply the most recent period of 鈥渆volution鈥?wherein those long-term market investors who crack the code for how
best to manage their assets to generate sustainable returns will also be best positioned to receive financial returns that outperform mainstream, short-term investing practice. Together, the evolved 鈥淧rudent Man鈥?and emerging, long-term investing strategies
promise to maximize the value that makes those financial returns worth pursuing."

After researching this -- again -- I find that I don't have any problems with what Gore is doing. Having the background he does, it makes sense that he would try to put his money where his mouth is.

Check out the sites. Then if you still want to take issue with what he's doing, knock yourself out.

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is a scientific intergovernmental body set up by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Its constituency is made of :

The governments: the IPCC is open to all member countries of WMO and UNEP. Governments of participate in plenary Sessions of the IPCC where main decisions about the IPCC work programme are taken and reports are accepted, adopted and approved. They also participate the review of IPCC Reports.

The scientists: hundreds of scientists all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC as authors, contributors and reviewers.

The people: as United Nations body, the IPCC work aims at the promotion of the United Nations human development goals

The scientists have produced several reports confirming that global warming is indeed real, and at least in part caused by human activity. The "junk science" is what is being spread by unpublished scientists and/or those paid for by the fossil fuel industry. Journalist Ross Gelbspan documented all of that in his excellent books "Boiling Point" and "The Heat is On" Real eye openers.
