Research your competition. If you are doing a wedding business, learn it first. Learn fabrics, styles, trends, gown cuts, necklines, sleeve styles, skirt types, and waists (i.e. empire, dropped, natural,etc). There is a lot to learn try theknot.com for this information. Go to local fabric retailers to learn your fabrics. Learn pricing. There is a lot of competition out there (me for instance). You have to learn your business. If you are selling bridal and the bride knows more than you, you will fail. You have to know what they are talking about and trust me a 90% of brides will know exactly what they want and all about the deisgners and fabrics.

Have suppliers lined up. Find out about minimum purchases, and if they drop ship. This can make a difference in your profit margin. Find out about returns. Most of the time you cannot return bridal wear.

The competition is fierce. Don't wear your heart of your sleeve and be sure to cover yourself. You will run into customers that you never thought you would run into.
