What are the basic hardware/software requirements when developing an E-business?

I know you need like a shopping cart software, right?

Hardware: This part is easy as you don't need anything really special. The vast majority of shared web hosts have everything you need as you don't need anything special for ecommerce. The websites don't take up much space unless you have tons of pictures and even then the space offered by web hosts will be more then adequate. Just make sure you have the ability to use an SSL certificate as you must secure your order page. Also make sure you can use PHP (programming language) and MySQL (database) as most shopping carts need those to work.

Software: As far as software goes you are correct about needing a shopping cart. Well, if you have more then one item then you need one. If you are selling only one item then you don't need one. Any decent shopping cart will take care of most things you need. You will need a merchant account and gateway of some kind to process your payments. You have a lot of shopping carts, payment providers, and payment gateways to choose from.
