Help with website backgrounds?

I am making a website for a small business I started and would like the background to be a gradient going from white on the left and fading into yellow/gold on the right. I want it to adjust to fit whatever size screen it's viewed on. How do I do this? What would the HTML code be and where would I put it?

NEVER use tables except for tabular data!!!!

Make your image gradient first so it can be tiled to fit any screen size. Then style the container where you want the background image:

background: #XXX url(image_url) repeat scroll;

Set #XXX to background color of choice.
