Opening own PC repair business?

I want to open my own PC repair business. I currently plan to get business cards and start a website. What else do I need, other than clients, for my business? Such stuff to make sure I don't go to jail. Like taxes, registration, etc? thanks

If you want a legitimate business the easiest way to start is to get in the phone book look for an attorney that deals with small business startups make an appointment and have the attorney set up either a corpoaration, partnership, or sole proprietorship tell him what your looking to do and he'll advise which one you need. Cost about $700 he can do everything usually same day and will get you a tax id number through the state. For a yearly fee of about $125 he will be your Lawyer in case you have a problem

Next you'll need an office. You can use a room in your home even the garage and you'll be able to right off the room on your taxes including electricity, cable, internet use a CPA for your yearly taxes. about $500 The tax id number will help when you buy equipment for your business because you won't pay taxes until the end of the year.

Next Advertisement where are your going to find your customer base if your working out of your home try flyers go to apartments ask the building manager who prints the ads and distributes the flyers to there tenants call them and for about $300 they will print a flyer and add your flyer and deliver it monthly to all the apartments in a geographical area usually about 10,000 tenants of which you may get 1-5 %make sure the apartments in an area that's nice. put in your flyer that you can come to there home and repair on site that will help as well undercut any other company and beat there price use a different phone for your business and answer with you business name don't use your personal cell phone.

Find a local printer in your area you need a reciept book, business cards everything for your business thats paper related make sure to have at least 3 carbonized copies good carbon for each transaction. you need a paper trail for your CPA and for the State just in case you get audited.

Yahoo advertising is pretty good

if your going to use a website don't build it yourself always looks cheap let the pro's do it $1500-7500.00 you can add a payflow gateway through your bank so that you can accept visa and mastercard but your charged about 5% on every transaction the best way is to set it up through Paypal and you website i think it's only 2% and you can use any form of payment

You need about $10,000 grand to start if you don't have it then i suggest the $1500 website 2 pages, the attorney fees of $700 and simple advertising such as the flyers and other questions let me know
