Do websites make money? Is the more time I spend on yahoo wesite imply that yahoo is making money on the other hand.

A web page doesn't make money simply because you surf through the site. BUT, if you have a page enjoying 50,000 hits a day then you have an audience. Advertisers are very interested in audiences. They will pay for access to your site so they can annoy your audience with pop-ups and other advertisements.

A time period when most people are asleep. Now you have the low end of the scale. A radio station with limited output to a small audience who are mostly asleep.

Now compare that bit of pocket change to the cost of 30 seconds during half time at the Superbowl. That is, if not the most expensive time available it is certain among the top few.

It depends on the contracts set up. Usually, the money is made only when a person clicks on an advertisement. However, they can keep track of how many visitors they have or how many unique visitors they have, and charge advertisers based off that.
