How do we register for Service Tax without getting harrassed as ignorance led to non-registration for 4 yrs?

We are in business as a pvt. ltd. company for 10 years providing management training. We have been filing our returns promptly. But with regards to Service Tax, our auditors did not advise us to register and now when we want to register, we are afraid that we may be penalised heavily.

Need some good solutions to this mess.

recently on and upto 400000 /- no tax ,have u bifurcated your income in returns ,even if returns are more, see it that service taxable amount is less than 4 lac,

U cannot escape the Penalty if U go by the Rules and Regulation the Only way is the Bribe.

There will not be any harassment, if you declare everything, on your own. They will ask you to pay, the back-log, only. Since, it is Voluntarily Disclosure, they may waive the penalty. Even then, if they insist, you will have to pay. Better, you seek an appointment with Director General of Service Tax along with, your Auditor, and appraise him, clearly. You are in which place. If known, I may be able suggest, a reliable person to represent you.

The Finance Act,1994 provides that no penalty is leviable when service tax and interest is paid before issue of demand notice by the department.
