commerce California claimed that 56.9% of all california small business owners believed taht next year's business conditions would be worse than this year's

if a sample of 742 California small business owners is selected, and assuming that the claim is true,\

how many small business owners would you expect to hold this belief?

i think the solution is 742x0.569=422.198

is it correct?

Just keep in mind there's no such thing as 422.198 people. In Statistics, you would be expected to round that figure to 423 people.

I don't recall the terminology, but I recall a caveat related to this type of problem. The survey of businesses, by its very nature, must have an integer answer, not a fraction. A business is either saying yes or no, so you can't have a .198 portion of a business answering the survey. Much like noone really has 2.5 kids even though that's the age old average thrown about. I think the answer will end up being 422 by that reasoning.

I did the same as you. And it would be 422, since 1 is the next number and it is less than 5.

yeah thats true. i would say 422 because if you rounded to the nearest tenth it would be 422.2 which means u lose the 2.

These are statistics of people. You are expected to round partials up in statistics. If this is not a statistics class, then round it down by the .5 rule (less than .5 round down, .5 or more, round up) considered the rule of thumb in most math except statistics involving people.

Depends on how many decimal you want to use: 2 or 4 after the point. IF you use 4 you MUST round it down to 422, but IF you use 2, you MUST round it up to 423.
